Three Republicans compete August 11 for an open seat after Sheriff John Grismore chose not to seek reelection, according to Vermont Public and the St. Albans Messenger, and no Democrat filed for the office.

He joined the sheriff's office in 2008, is its sole firearms instructor and was an original member of its special response team, according to the Messenger.
