Kristen H. Hoyt won the March 3, 2026 Republican county judge primary with 67.27 percent of the vote (18,431 votes) over Kayne Parrish (21.84 percent, 5,985 votes) and Deb Hindman (10.89 percent, 2,983 votes), per Herald-Zeitung primary results. No Democrat filed, so Hoyt is unopposed on the November ballot. The seat opened after County Judge Sherman Krause announced in December 2025 that he would not seek reelection and then died; the Commissioners Court appointed Hoyt to serve the remainder of Krause's term and she was sworn in March 5, 2026, per Herald-Zeitung and Community Impact.
