Helm began her career at Fred Meyer at age 16 and rose to a principal buyer role over 16 years, per her campaign site. She was elected to the Damascus City Council in 2006, opened her own home decor store, Terra Casa, that same year, and was the last Mayor of Damascus before the city disincorporated in 2016; she was selected by the Board of Commissioners in May 2025 to fill a vacant seat on the Clackamas County Commission, per her campaign site.
