Both District 1 seats are up. Democrats Glenn Adams (incumbent) and Sheila Cuffee won a five-candidate March 3, 2026 Democratic primary (unofficial county-summed NCSBE precinct results: Adams 3,510 votes/20.9%, Cuffee 3,499/20.9%, ahead of Larry O. Wright Sr., Terri S. Thomas and Garry Murray); no second primary was required. No Republican filed, so Adams and Cuffee are unopposed for the two seats in November. Sitting commissioner Dr. Jeannette M. Council, whose term also expires in 2026, did not file for re-election.
