About the Three Rivers Park District

Three Rivers Park District is an independent special park district, established in 1957 and governed by its own seven-member board, separate from the Hennepin County Board and from city councils. It runs the regional park system in suburban Hennepin County, can levy property taxes and issue debt within limits set by law, and enacts and enforces park ordinances, per its ordinance document and annual financial report.

The board has seven commissioners: five elected from districts in suburban Hennepin County and two appointed by the Hennepin County Board, per the district's board page. Only voters who live in District 3 vote on this seat. District 3 covers Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park (Precincts W-1, W-2 and W-3), Crystal, Golden Valley, Robbinsdale, St. Anthony and St. Louis Park, per the same page. Elected commissioners run without party labels and serve four-year terms (two years in a census year), per Minnesota Statutes section 383B.68.

Erin Kolb holds District 3 now, per the board page, and is running for re-election.
