Only Democrats qualified (no Republican filed), per the county's May 19, 2026 Democratic and Republican sample ballots. Five Democrats ran in the May 19 primary: incumbent Alaina Reaves led with 4,094 votes (37.22%) but fell short of a majority, sending the race to a June 16, 2026 runoff against second-place finisher Demeitrice Collins (2,720 votes, 24.73%) in the primary round, per Clayton News-Daily's reporting on the primary.
