About this race
September 15 primary result: Jason Hoover (37.2 percent) and Helena M. Creamer (36.7 percent) won the Democratic nomination over Curtis Dauntell Linton (26.1 percent) and advances to the November 3 ballot, per the official results. Ballot status: Hoover leads Creamer by 28 votes in the unofficial count; the nomination is not settled until the Department of Elections certifies the result, so both names stay listed. An open seat: sitting councilman Penrose Hollins is not running. Three Democrats met in the September 15 closed primary and no Republican filed, so the primary effectively decides the seat. This race appears only on District 4 ballots.
What this office does
County commissioner. The county board is the county's legislative and, in most states, executive body. Commissioners adopt the county budget and property tax rate, oversee roads, the jail, public health, planning and zoning in unincorporated areas, and appoint or confirm department heads. In counties with an elected county executive or judge, the board's role is mainly the budget and ordinances.
