About this measure

How it reached the ballot

Alaska has no citizen path to amend its constitution: initiatives can propose only statutes, and the process is indirect, with the Legislature able to keep a certified measure off the ballot by enacting substantially equivalent law. Initiatives and referendums need signatures equal to 10 percent of the last general-election turnout (34,098 for 2026), including minimum support in at least 30 of 40 state House districts. Constitutional amendments require a two-thirds vote of each legislative chamber, and all measures pass by simple majority.
