Biography
Tim Scott is a U.S. Senator from South Carolina, first appointed in 2012 and subsequently elected. Raised by a single mother in North Charleston, he overcame early academic struggles to build a successful small business before entering public service. He served on the Charleston County Council, in the South Carolina House of Representatives, and the U.S. House of Representatives before becoming the first Black senator from the South since Reconstruction. He sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, suspending his campaign in November 2023.
