Biography
Sylvester Turner, a Democrat, was born in Houston and earned degrees from the University of Houston and Harvard Law School. He practiced law before serving 25 years in the Texas House of Representatives, including as Speaker Pro Tem. Turner was later elected Mayor of Houston, serving two terms, and briefly represented Texas's 18th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.
