Biography
Richard J. Durbin is the senior U.S. Senator from Illinois, a position he has held since 1997. A Democrat, he has served as the Senate Democratic Whip since 2005 and chaired the Judiciary Committee from 2021-2025. Senator Durbin announced in April 2025 that he will not seek re-election and plans to retire at the end of his term in January 2027.
