A former governor and technology entrepreneur who co-founded the company that became Nextel, he is the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee and co-authored the CHIPS and Science Act. He drew no Democratic challenger, so Virginia held no Democratic Senate contest on August 4; he faces Republican Bert Mizusawa on November 3.
