A land use and environmental attorney who began her career enforcing Florida's growth management and environmental laws, Kathy Castor went on to serve as a Hillsborough County commissioner and chair of the county's Environmental Protection Commission, per her official House biography. That biography says she was first elected to the U.S. House in 2006 and was the first woman to represent both Hillsborough and Pinellas counties in Congress. She is a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, serving as ranking member of its Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, and previously chaired the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, per the same biography.
