Biography
Joni Ernst, a Republican, is a U.S. Senator representing Iowa. She previously served as Montgomery County Auditor and in the Iowa State Senate, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Iowa Army National Guard after 23 years of military service, including a deployment to Kuwait and Iraq. Ernst was elected in 2014 as the first woman to represent Iowa in federal office and the first female combat veteran in the U.S. Senate.
