Biography
Christopher H. Smith, a Republican, has served as the U.S. Representative for New Jersey's 4th Congressional District since being elected in 1980, currently in his 23rd term. He is a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, chairing its Africa Subcommittee, and co-chairs the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission and the Congressional-Executive Commission on China. Smith is also recognized for his legislative work, including the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
