Biography
Ata-ul-Salaam Bhatti is a public-interest lawyer and a Democratic candidate for Congress in Virginia's 1st District. A child of immigrants, he has worked for nearly a decade fighting for working families, including leading bipartisan efforts to expand SNAP food assistance and secure free school meals. Bhatti previously served as the public benefits attorney and deputy director of the Virginia Poverty Law Center and later as director of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for the Food Research & Action Center.
